Christopher Nolan's latest film reimagines Homer's "The Odyssey" not as a heroic adventure but as a stark portrait of psychological wounds. The director focuses on moral injury, a condition often seen in war veterans who struggle to forgive themselves after violating their deepest values.

In this version, Odysseus is not a clever tactician returning home. He is a man haunted by the choices he made to survive. Nolan strips away the mythic gloss to show a warrior who cannot unsee the faces of the enemies he killed, the allies he sacrificed, and the lies he told to get through each battle. The film argues that the real monster in the story is not the Cyclops or the Sirens, but the guilt that follows a soldier home.
