Blake Griffin Says Sports Psychologist Betrayed His Trust

Blake Griffin Says Sports Psychologist Betrayed His Trust

Former NBA star Blake Griffin has opened up about a troubling experience with a sports psychologist, revealing that the professional betrayed his trust during a vulnerable time in his career. Griffin, known for his high-flying dunks and time with the Los Angeles Clippers, described the encounter as anything but helpful.

Speaking on a recent podcast, Griffin explained that he sought out the psychologist to deal with the pressures of professional basketball. He was looking for a safe space to discuss his mental health and performance anxiety. Instead, he claims the therapist shared private details of their sessions with team officials without his consent.

"It was a complete violation," Griffin said. "You go in thinking you can be honest, that what you say stays in the room. But that wasn't the case." He added that the experience made him wary of seeking professional help for years afterward.

The six-time All-Star did not name the psychologist or the team involved. However, he emphasized that the incident highlights a larger issue in professional sports, where mental health resources are often tied to the team's interests rather than the player's well-being. "They want you to perform, not to heal," Griffin noted.

Since retiring from the NBA, Griffin has become more vocal about the mental and emotional toll of professional athletics. He hopes that by sharing his story, younger athletes will be more cautious about who they trust. "Your mind is your most important asset," he said. "Protect it."
